Senior Solicitor

About the Role

The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency is seeking a highly skilled Senior Solicitor to join our dynamic team in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, or Alice Springs.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent clients in criminal court proceedings, including bail applications, pleas, trials, and appeals.
• Advise clients on criminal law matters and their legal rights and options.
• Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain detailed and accurate case files and records.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of NAAJA's legal strategies and policies.
• Collaborate with the wider legal team to ensure the provision of a comprehensive and effective legal service.
• Mentor junior staff and provide guidance and support as required.

Requirements

• Admission (or eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory with a minimum of 5 years post-admission experience.
• Significant experience in criminal law, with a strong understanding of the legal system and court procedures.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Commitment to social justice and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

What We Offer

• Salary packaging options up to $18,450 per annum tax-free.
• Remote allowance of $3,300 per annum (if applicable).
• Annual airfare allowance.
