Aboriginal Community Health Support Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in Aboriginal community health as a Support Officer for a Tackling Indigenous Smoking program.
In close collaboration with community stakeholders, you will be part of a dedicated team responsible for developing, promoting and implementing supportive resources and activities aimed at reducing smoking rates and promoting smoke-free environments in Aboriginal communities within the Barkly region.
- Support the development, coordination and facilitation of positive engagement, interventions and activities aligned with the TIS program guidelines and organisational practices.
- Assist the Team Leader and Communications Officer in delivering regional smoking prevention campaigns, community events, forums and information sharing that promotes tobacco awareness and cessation.
- Proactively build and maintain sustainable networks with diverse Aboriginal community groups across the Barkly Region.
- Support the work of the National Best Practice Unit (NBPU) to identify, develop and assist in delivering responsive social marketing campaigns for smoking prevention and cessation.
- Promote the organisation's vision, mission and priorities as determined by the Board of Directors and outlined in its Strategic Plan.
- Contribute to risk management and mitigation strategies to ensure client safety and well-being.
- Ensure all program materials are up-to-date, relevant and engaging for the target audience.
- Undertake administrative duties including report writing and data management to ensure compliance with funding obligations.
- Foster a professional and culturally safe work environment.
- Adhere to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs free workplace policies and demonstrate aligned behaviours.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders including community, government and not-for-profit agencies, representing and advocating for the program at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards appropriate to the TIS program.
- Participate in ongoing staff training and development, team meetings and collaborative planning activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes to ensure programs meet professional standards.
- Travel to remote communities for outreach and engagement purposes.
To succeed in this role, applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Essential skills and qualifications include:
- A minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Health or equivalent, or willingness to undertake training to achieve this qualification.
- Experience working in Aboriginal community health or welfare services, with ability to support delivery of culturally responsive programs and services.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary for effective networking and relationship-building with diverse Aboriginal community groups.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and reporting skills for cross-agency and cross-cultural environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A current NT drivers license.
