About the Role

The Senior Engineering Practice Lead will provide strategic direction to the Chapters within the Engineering Practice at Woolworths. This role will enable the engineering team to adapt, grow, and innovate capabilities to be world-class. The successful candidate will be responsible for right-sizing, efficiency, continuous improvement, and quality of capabilities in the business and building the talent pipeline and future leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guiding the team with the right engineering capabilities, capacity, and practices to deliver Woolworths' priorities
  • Driving the correct Engineering Practice and Chapters to maximize team engagement and delivery effectiveness
  • Ensuring alignment with the Practices model implemented across the broader Tech-X team
  • Providing thought-leadership on technologies, tools, and processes/standards used by squads
  • Collaborating with the Solution Architecture team to ensure target state architecture and technology decisions align with the Engineering Practice roadmap
  • Ensuring technology choices made by squads align with the strategic architecture agreed with the Solution Architecture team
  • Helping Technology Delivery Managers and Group Product Managers balance delivery and capacity tradeoffs
  • Leading the recruitment, talent-pipeline, and professional development processes for engineers
  • Coaching squads on solving complex technology problems
  • Coaching Chapter Leads/Tech Leads on ensuring solutions are performant, secure, cost-effective, reliable, deployable, testable, and evolvable, and tech-debt is effectively managed

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience leading engineering teams with multiple squads
  • Strong background with hands-on engineering delivery using modern web technologies across the full stack
  • Agile software delivery experience
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills
