Cyber Security Outreach and Capability Officer

This role plays a key part in helping the Department meet its obligations under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), and the Essential Eight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver cyber-related initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement activities to ensure compliance with security policies and standards.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, onboarding resources, and internal communications to support staff understanding and adherence to cybersecurity protocols.
  • Create and update SOPs, guidance notes, and knowledge articles for both cyber teams and end users to ensure consistent and accurate information.
  • Coordinate cyber awareness programs, staff briefings, and targeted training sessions to promote a culture of cybersecurity within the organization.
  • Engage with business units to identify communication needs and support tool/process adoption, driving stakeholder engagement and cross-team coordination to uplift cyber literacy.
  • Translate technical content into clear, accessible, and actionable materials for non-technical stakeholders, supporting effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Maintain documentation, delivery trackers, and internal records to ensure consistency and auditability, ensuring all relevant parties are informed and aligned with security protocols.
Requirements:
  1. Demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering cyber security awareness, education, or uplift activities within an organisation, showcasing ability to drive change and foster a culture of security.
  2. Strong stakeholder engagement and communications skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams, promoting effective collaboration and cooperation.
  3. Experience supporting the development and maintenance of cyber security policies, operational documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge articles, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  4. Ability to support project activities, including planning, reporting, and facilitation of cyber security exercises or workshops, driving successful outcomes and positive impact.
  5. Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications, highlighting commitment to professional growth and expertise.
