As Rail Network Modelling Expert, you will be part of a dynamic team that designs and develops strategic service plans for the state's rail network. You'll work with advanced modelling systems to improve the way we move people across Victoria.

The role involves contributing to critical projects that shape the future of V/Line's service planning and rail network operations. You'll gain practical experience working on real-world projects that impact the state's rail network.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for students about to enter or already completing their final year of undergraduate or postgraduate study in a relevant field. The internship offers a chance to apply your skills and contribute to real-world projects that make a genuine difference in the community.

  • Rail Network Planning: Contribute to the design and development of V/Line's strategic service plans and future network configurations.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, collate, and analyse operational data to inform planning decisions.
  • Modelling and Simulation: Support the validation and testing of RailSys models, ensuring data integrity and model accuracy.
Key Responsibilities

You'll be involved in various aspects of rail network planning, including:

Rail Network Planning: Collaborate with experts to develop strategic service plans and future network configurations.

Data Analysis: Work with data to inform planning decisions and ensure accurate model performance.

Collaborative Projects: Contribute to innovative decision-support tools and operational simulations as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

About You

We're looking for motivated students who are passionate about using data and technology to solve real-world problems. Ideal candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with quantitative analysis and data-driven problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills to present findings and collaborate effectively with a team.

This position is classified as CLERK C1 ($39.5260 per hour) in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employees Agreement 2023.
