Job Summary

A seasoned FX Artist plays a crucial role in developing complex setups across multiple shots while maintaining flexibility to respond to feedback. Responsible for creating and setting up realistic or stylized effects that simulate natural phenomena, contributing creatively to meet the brief.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop procedural and simulation-based effects, utilizing expertise in Houdini to deliver high-quality results.
  • Apply lighting and shaders to effects elements for final rendering or hand off simulations to the Lighting department.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure timely and effective shot delivery.
  • Work within the FX team to conceptualize and implement creative design solutions, driving innovation in visual effects.
  • Design and create effects imagery, procedural elements, tools, and pipelines, pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
  • Contribute to the development of procedural workflows and tools, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
  • Produce composited previews of effects elements for review; in some cases, deliver final renders, meeting deadlines and exceeding expectations.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with Production and Leads on schedules and deadlines, ensuring seamless project execution.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • A degree or diploma relevant to visual effects or computer graphics, or equivalent professional experience, with a strong foundation in programming languages such as Python and VEX.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a film VFX pipeline, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines.
  • High proficiency in Houdini, with a strong understanding of FX simulation techniques and procedural animation workflows.
  • Strong understanding of physics and mathematics, with a keen eye for accuracy in movement, weight, and timing.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and creative, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Flexibility and openness to feedback, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to changes.
