The Opportunity

We are seeking a Corporate Tax Lawyer at the Solicitor or Senior Associate level to join our leading Band 1 and award-winning corporate team to be based Sydney.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Sydney Tax practice where you will be working with Partner, James Pettigrew and other leading Tax Partners, as well as lawyers across our national Tax practice.

Your Role

You will undertake a range of corporate tax work that supports national and international clients on complex commercial transactions. Your day could typically involve:

  • Advising clients on tax implications of transactions and investments across our corporate, funds, energy and resources and property clients and HSF groups;
  • Negotiating with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) when required;
  • You may be advising clients on a range of corporate tax law from corporate reorganisations, trusts, initial public offerings, secondary offerings, spin-offs, joint ventures, employee share schemes and executive remuneration, through to partnerships;
  • While your focus will be on corporate-related work, you will form part of a broad tax offering spanning the Corporate, Finance and Disputes practice groups, and will work closely with your tax colleagues in Australia and internationally;
  • The role will not encompass tax compliance work.

Your Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have an unrestricted Australian or New Zealand practicing certificate;
  • 3+ years' experience across a range of corporate tax matters (international tax, M&A or corporate tax) in a top-tier or mid-tier private practice, top-tier accounting firm or large corporate;
  • Possess an excellent academic record, ideally including a Masters in Taxation;
  • Deliver work to a high standard and with strong attention to detail;
  • Be accustomed to working to tight timeframes, in both a collaborative and autonomous manner;
  • For SAs, an enjoy for supervising and mentoring junior solicitors;
  • Be curious about clients and the desire to build strong relationships to foster business growth;
