Ecological Field Specialist
Seeking individuals with higher education qualifications and a passion for animal care.
nrmjoEnvironmental jobs, NRM is in search of Ecological Field Specialists to enhance our Project Ecology division.
Your responsibilities will encompass working on premier infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives.
Your daily tasks will include assessing bushland areas for habitat characteristics that may support endangered native wildlife. This assessment includes identifying hollow-bearing trees, nests, caves, termite mounds, large hollow logs, and other critical habitat elements.
As your work is linked to extensive renewable development projects, you will be required to be onsite to capture and relocate displaced wildlife, as well as provide guidance on salvaging habitat components from areas designated for vegetation removal.
While you will observe land clearing activities, your role will ensure that these operations are conducted in the most environmentally responsible manner permissible by law, policy, and project management protocols.
You will receive training in animal handling techniques from seasoned professionals, although prior experience and proficiency in this area are preferred.
Additionally, you may participate in the surveying and mapping of invasive species and endangered flora using GPS technology.
This position offers the opportunity to gain experience on significant national projects in stunning and remote regions, primarily in regional New South Wales.
Administrative DetailsCompensation will exceed your corresponding level as per the Professional Employees Award.
This role is classified as Casual (hourly rate), with approximately 80% - 95% of the work conducted in the field, complemented by some office duties (e.g., data entry, report writing).
We will provide you with a laptop, safety gear, and field equipment necessary for your role.
Expect to spend extended periods away from home and loved ones.
The position will involve FIFO or DIDO arrangements, requiring you to drive a company vehicle or utilize air travel and rental cars to attend field surveys outside of Sydney for up to 14 consecutive days. Typically, the duration is shorter (7-10 days is more common). All meals and accommodations will be covered.
Weekend work may be necessary; however, you will be compensated for all hours worked, and we will arrange your schedule to ensure you have time off to recuperate after your assignments.
We will provide comfortable lodging and cover all meals and other relevant expenses associated with the project.
Your daily activities will involve traversing bushland terrain, which may include steep hills, thus a high level of health and fitness is crucial. If you have any injuries that could be aggravated by hiking in challenging terrain, please reconsider this position.
There are opportunities for career advancement within our dynamic and passionate consultancy, alongside a team of dedicated flora and fauna ecologists.
