About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Registered Midwife to join our Maternity Service team at West Gippsland Healthcare Group. As a midwife with our organization, you will have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, appropriate, and culturally sensitive midwife care to women and their babies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality midwifery care to women and their babies, including pregnancy care, birthing services, and postnatal care.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to achieve the best outcomes for women and their babies.
  • Participate in research projects, such as the SCV PPH collaborative, to improve midwifery practice and patient outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with women and their families, providing education and support throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of midwifery policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated sound level of midwifery skills and works within safe practice principles.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI).
  • Understanding of current midwifery practice, including the Department of Health's Victorian Maternity and Newborn Services Framework.
  • Commitment to flexibility and innovation in practice, including an evidence-based approach to care.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated written and computer skills at the level required to fulfill the role.

West Gippsland Healthcare Group is a customer-focused health organization providing acute medical and surgical, maternity, emergency, residential care, and community health services to 45,000 people in the rural, urban residential, agricultural, and industrial areas located within the Baw Baw Shire and beyond.

Our Maternity Service caters for up to 900 women a year from across the region. As a referral center to smaller services, we strive to provide care to women as close as possible to their family home. We provide pregnancy care, birthing services (including waterbirth), postnatal, and domiciliary care, together with a well-established breastfeeding support service.
