About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technology Lawyer - Commercial Contracts to join our team at WaterNSW. As a key member of our legal team, you will play a critical role in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, with a major focus on IT/software and data sharing agreements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting and Negotiating Commercial Contracts

You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of complex commercial contracts, including IT/software and data sharing agreements, construction contracts, professional services contracts, and inter-governmental contracts.

Providing Strategic Legal Advice

You will provide strategic and technically sound legal advice to enable WaterNSW to assess legal risks and make sound decisions on complex contractual and commercial matters.

Partnering with Internal Stakeholders

You will partner with various internal stakeholders through the provision of advice and support in relation to legal and commercial issues, including project delivery.

Contract Interpretation and Dispute Resolution

You will advise WaterNSW on project-related legal issues, contract interpretation, and contractual disputes.

Contract Template Development and Implementation

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of a range of contract templates that support the commercial, operational, and strategic objectives of WaterNSW, and assist in the implementation of the templates across the business, including training key staff.

Requirements
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Law

You will have tertiary qualifications in law, with at least 5+ years' post-qualification experience working either in-house and/or with a top-tier law firm.

Admission as a Legal Practitioner

You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory (currently holding, or eligible to hold a NSW practising certificate).

Pro-Active and Agile Mindset

You will have a pro-active, agile mindset and strong problem-solving and influencing skills.

Ability to Manage Competing Priorities

You will be able to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.

Significant Experience in Drafting and Negotiating Commercial Contracts

You will have significant experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of complex commercial contracts.

Experience in Advising on Legal and Commercial Risks

You will have experience in advising on legal and commercial risks.

Knowledge of the Legal and Regulatory Framework

You will have knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to a State-Owned Corporation or other Government entity.
