Position Summary

Located within the Cooma office of Snowy Hydro Limited, the Project Design Engineer – Structural role focuses on managing the civil and structural engineering components of the Snowy 2.0 project. The position entails conducting design evaluations, executing design calculations, reviewing technical drawings, formulating technical specifications, assessing feasibility, and providing engineering support throughout the construction phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform design evaluations of contractor submissions and assist in the comprehensive review of the design package under the Lead Engineer's guidance.
  • Support the Design Package Lead in coordinating and addressing design challenges with contractors and other consultants, following the Lead Engineer's directives.
  • Offer technical assistance for site inquiries, requests for information, and design validations under the supervision of the Lead Engineer.
  • Contribute to the development of practical on-site solutions for civil and structural design issues, providing feedback on technical drawings under the Lead Engineer's oversight.
  • Conduct site inspections and visits as necessary.
  • Maintain exemplary health and safety standards by implementing safety protocols, embodying the core values of Snowy Hydro, leading by example for colleagues and team members, and actively participating in accordance with SHL Health & Safety policies.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related discipline, complemented by experience in structural design, civil construction, and underground projects. Your background should also include expertise in hydropower, energy generation, distribution, construction, and commissioning processes. You will thrive in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams, facilitating effective knowledge exchange. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for conveying information and ideas clearly to various audiences. Additionally, your values should align closely with those of Snowy Hydro, emphasizing Safety, Decency, Teamwork, Agility, Courage, and Ownership.
