The role of a janitor involves maintaining the cleanliness and organization of various environments, such as buildings, offices, and institutions. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to work independently, as well as being a team player.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain floors, surfaces, and equipment to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Empty trash and recyclables in designated receptacles.
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms with soap, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures to maintain their appearance.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment regularly.
  • Adjust and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture.
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors using specialized equipment.
  • Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water.
  • Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments.
  • Operate vehicles required for cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  • Monitor building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks.
  • Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, and clear debris from grounds.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in janitorial services is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
