Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Support Family-Carer Advocate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have direct personal experience as a family member, carer, or supporter of a person with lived experience of mental health challenges and of accessing mental health services.

This role plays a critical part in improving the service's responsiveness to family-carer-supporter needs and communicating the broad views of family-carers-supporters to the mental health service and other relevant services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for systemic changes that enable and ensure a carer lens, perspective, and view in service planning, delivery and implementation.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to promote co-production principles and the Carer Perspective.
  • Utilize expertise in recovery-oriented and strength-based practice in mental health to inform advocacy efforts.
  • Develop and maintain respectful relationships while advocating for system change.
  • Contribute to ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Degree in social science or related field, or equivalent experience working in a recovery-oriented mental health environment.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including family-carers-supporters, staff, and committees.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of mental health challenges on family-carers-supporters and the importance of co-production principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including problem-solving and conflict-resolving abilities.
  • Familiarity with computers and basic competency in software applications such as Microsoft Office.
