The Senior News Content Strategist will have a deep understanding of the Australian news landscape, enabling them to lead and develop large teams of journalists effectively.
A key aspect of our editorial strength is our Prime Time evening coverage. The Senior News Content Strategist must deploy resources strategically to ensure that we prioritize content in line with audience demand. This requires close collaboration with video journalists in the Digital team and a coordinated editorial strategy at nights.
Reporting to the Digital Editor, the Senior News Content Strategist will share responsibility for managing the Digital Reporters alongside the Deputy Editor. This involves exceptional editorial planning, roster management, and people management skills.
This role typically starts at 2pm every weekday, but the Senior News Content Strategist should expect variable start and finish times due to changing editorial needs each day.
Key Responsibilities:- Possess mature news judgement to help navigate story pitches from staff and prioritize the most important issues.
- Help manage a 7-day roster to ensure the biggest news moments are appropriately staffed.
- Use WordPress CMS to build stories, assign them to relevant sections, and liaise with social media teams.
- Identify newsworthy opinion and interview content from television channels and deliver it to online audiences quickly and accurately into the news cycle.
- Understand what content works best for which platforms and target content specifically for Digital platforms.
- Work in a fast-paced team environment, collaborating with Digital Video teams, and on-air teams to turn around exclusive content rapidly.
- Seasoned news judgement and experience in a leadership role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with fluctuating deadlines.
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in WordPress CMS.
- Knowledge of digital platforms and their unique content requirements.
