About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Food Services Assistant to join our team at Southern Cross Care. In this role, you will work as part of a cohesive team, undertaking general catering duties for the provision of high quality catering services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation, cooking, distribution and serving of all types of meals for residents, visitors, staff and functions.
  • Observe food safety, HACCP, quality and hygiene standards, and adhere to SCC policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate relevant catering records, including monitoring and recording of food temperatures.
  • Report any feedback from residents on their satisfaction or otherwise with meals provided.
  • Work positively and collaboratively with other staff to provide person centred food services and supports that are safe and effective.
  • Support each resident in making their own food decisions, in conjunction with Nursing staff, to enable them to feel socially connected.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a food handling role.
  • Sound best practice food handling skills as appropriate to the role.
  • Adequate communication skills and a good level of English literacy.
  • Ability to speak in a manner that older people can understand.
  • Sound manual handling skills.
  • Good time management to manage own workload without direct supervision, to complete tasks within the allocated time.
  • Basic understanding of the requirements to support residents living with dementia, including those who display challenging behaviours.
  • Current and unrestricted South Australian driver's licence.
