An Aerospace Electronics Specialist is a critical member of the Australian Defence Force, responsible for ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of Army aircraft communication, navigation, radar, electrical, electronics, and instrument systems.
The types of aircraft maintained by these specialists include the Eurocopter EC665 Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter, the Boeing CH47 Chinook, and the Sikorsky S-70A-9 Black Hawk.
The key responsibilities of this role involve:
- Carrying out scheduled and unscheduled servicing, overhauls, and repairs to aircraft electrical instruments and electronic systems and equipment.
- Operating and maintaining test equipment and special tooling associated with the trade.
- Operating and maintaining workshop plant, equipment, and vehicles.
- Acting as crew members during flight testing to diagnose faults.
- Identifying and investigating defects and recommending remedial action in the areas covered by the trade.
- Maintaining technical manuals and maintenance documentation for aircraft and related equipment.
A typical day for an Aerospace Electronics Specialist involves working in a well-equipped workshop or on tarmacs on aircraft flight lines, or in the field environment.
About the RoleThis is a dynamic and challenging role that requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results under pressure.
A strong understanding of aircraft systems, electrical and electronic principles, and mechanical aptitude are essential for success in this role.
