Live and work in a one-of-a-kind environment on Willis Island.

The island is situated beyond the Great Barrier Reef, off the coast of Australia. At 500 meters long and 150 meters wide, it offers a unique opportunity for individuals to experience life in isolation. The island rises about 9 meters above sea level and is home to an abundance of wildlife.

As part of a small team living and working remotely, you will be assessed based on your skills, knowledge, and ability to adapt to this challenging environment. You will have the chance to develop personally and professionally in this role.

Your responsibilities will include participating in station cleaning and general household duties, supporting the Station Manager in promoting staff resilience in isolated settings.

This position entails various roles, including:

  • Field Services Technician - APS Level 6: Undertaking complex tasks related to operational support, infrastructure, and network maintenance, such as coordinating resources for maintenance and inspections.
  • Officer-in-Charge - APS Level 5: Managing the Service program at Willis Island, encompassing Upper Air Observations, Surface Observations, Instrument maintenance, and data quality monitoring.
  • Technical Officer - APS Level 3: Supporting the Service program at Willis Island, including Upper Air Observations, Surface Observations, Instrument maintenance, and data quality monitoring.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a valid Australian driver's license, undergo psychometric, medical, and dental assessments, and be fully vaccinated with an approved COVID-19 vaccine.
