Lead Prosecutor

Darebin City Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Prosecutor to join our City Safety & Compliance Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering Council's prosecution functions, ensuring efficient service delivery and compliance with statutory obligations.
Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with regulatory teams within Council, including Traffic, Planning Investigations, Building, Local Laws, Animal Management, Litter & Environmental Health.
- Prepare briefs, charge and summons, and supporting documents.
- Represent Council in magistrates court or VCAT as required.
- Provide internal advice to statutory business units.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Court knowledge: demonstrated understanding of VCAT and Magistrates Court procedures related to compliance and prosecution matters.
- A tertiary qualification in law, legislative compliance, enforcement, or a related field, with several years' experience, or higher qualifications with specialized experience, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience in a relevant field.
