Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled City Laws Officer to join our team in Broadmeadows. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing efficient and effective local laws, parking, and animal management services.

The City Laws Officer will administer and enforce all Acts, Regulations, and Local Laws delegated by the Council in a professional and efficient manner. This will include undertaking generalist local laws duties, ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with Council Policies and Procedures, investigating breaches of Council Local Laws and other relevant legislation, and assisting with Fire Prevention Inspections.

The role requires the ability to work in a high-pressure customer service environment and represent the Council at the Magistrates Court or other jurisdiction as required. A strong understanding of Domestic Animals Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Environmental Protection Act, Metropolitan Fire Brigades Act CFA Act Local Government Act, Road Safety Act, Road Rules - Victoria, and Councils Local Laws is essential.

The successful candidate will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare letters, reports, and memoranda. They must possess quality customer service and presentation skills that support a positive image of the organisation during difficult situations and an environment of conflict.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certificate IV in Local Government Statutory Compliance (or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Council at the Magistrates Court or other jurisdiction as required.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare letters, reports, and memoranda.
  • Experience in a high-pressure customer service environment
  • Experience in either: justice administration, public administration, law enforcement, animal management, customer service or related fields.
  • Knowledge of the Domestic Animals Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Environmental Protection Act, Metropolitan Fire Brigades Act CFA Act Local Government Act, Road Safety Act, Road Rules - Victoria, and Councils Local Laws
