Job Title: Principal Policy Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Policy Advisor to join our team in Melbourne. As a key member of our Heavy Vehicle Reform team, you will play a critical role in developing and supporting the delivery of national law reforms to ensure safe, sustainable, and productive heavy vehicle and freight transport operations in Australia.

About the Role

The Principal Policy Advisor will undertake research, develop policy and legislation, and support the delivery of the Heavy Vehicle Reform Program. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders across all governments to harmonise national approaches and improve safety, productivity, environmental outcomes, consumer confidence, and regulatory efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policy and legislative solutions to support the Heavy Vehicle Reform Program
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy development and decision-making
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, and other stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain effective communication strategies to engage stakeholders and promote the Heavy Vehicle Reform Program
  • Provide advice and support to the Heavy Vehicle Reform team on policy and legislative matters
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience in strategic government policy development and regulatory reform
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise diverse information sources and build a compelling argument
  • Senior stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships
  • Highly developed analytical, conceptual, and creative problem-solving skills, including experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis to support public policy development
  • Adaptable program and project management skills, involving multiple disciplines and delivery partners
