Senior Backend Engineering Manager

Job Description:
As a backend engineering manager, you will lead a team of experienced engineers to deliver scalable and innovative video editing tools. Your focus will be on building a robust infrastructure for AI-powered services, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving the technical roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading a high-performing backend team to achieve project goals
- Developing and championing approaches to leveraging Canva's BE capabilities for AI/ML teams
- Collaborating across specialties to deliver cutting-edge editing tools for end-users
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading high-performing backend engineering teams
- Strong technical background in distributed systems, APIs, and infrastructure
- Ability to coach, develop, and grow engineering talent
- System design expertise and familiarity with Java
- A product mindset, comfortable making trade-offs and driving user-centric solutions
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams
