Job Description

The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our company's payroll function. This key position oversees the entire payroll cycle, from initial setup to final payment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process, including monthly and ad-hoc payrolls, to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate closely with our outsourced payroll provider to guarantee seamless processing and high-quality results.
  • Ensure all employees are correctly set up in the payroll system, with accurate and timely data entry.
  • Manage complex payroll calculations, reconciliations, and reports, including salaries, wages, bonuses, allowances, terminations, redundancies, and leave entitlements.
  • Perform regular leave reconciliations and maintain accurate leave accruals and balances.
  • Oversee senior management share plan dividend payments and coordinate annual statement preparation.
  • Verify casual hours in consultation with relevant segment managers, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Stay up-to-date with and apply relevant employment legislation, including payroll tax, superannuation, and PAYG withholding.
  • Process and submit all required statutory payments and reports: PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation contributions, Single Touch Payroll (STP), and annual reconciliation statements.
  • Maintain rigorous payroll compliance and internal controls, including data security and confidentiality.
  • Act as a primary contact for employee payroll-related inquiries, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
  • Drive continuous improvement of payroll processes, systems, and policies to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead or support payroll system upgrades or implementation projects to stay ahead of evolving requirements.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in end-to-end payroll management within medium to large corporate environments in Australia.
  • Proven track record of managing outsourced payroll providers and vendor relationships.
  • In-depth understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to clearly explain payroll-related matters.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive payroll and employee information.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with experience with Workday highly regarded.
