Category 5 Labour Management is a leading engineering company specialising in heavy industry and infrastructure projects throughout Australia.

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to join our team for ongoing projects in Gladstone, Queensland.

The Electrical Project Engineer will be responsible for designing, planning and commissioning electrical power and control systems, with a focus on PCS, substation designs, earthing designs and protection designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To support the development of the engineering team by providing specialist skills to service local heavy industry clients.
  • To guide and tutor graduate engineers with project work, designs and technical issues, reviewing their work as required.
  • To stay up-to-date with international and Australian standards, as well as legislative requirements.
  • To manage and report on projects, including budgetary and time frame management.
  • To contribute to business development and direction by introducing new markets and innovations.
  • To develop reports, specifications and technical papers as required by the company and its clients.
  • To continually improve company systems.
  • To develop and maintain contracts with clients.
  • To assist senior engineers with project work and designs.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience (post-graduate program).
  • A strong level of knowledge and commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Proven knowledge of specialist protection and analysis software for power systems and earthing system design.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Well-organised, pragmatic and able to handle a diverse and complex workload.
  • Demonstrable advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Friendly and approachable with a good sense of humour.
  • Flexible, consistent with a desire to lead and learn.
  • Aptitude to use initiative and make decisions.
  • Ability to perform small to medium projects from concept stages through to post-commissioning support.
  • Advanced power and earthing system knowledge, including time-current curve analysis, step/touch potential analysis and designs, load flow modeling experience, fault level analysis, arc flash analysis and calculations, PTW Powertools and CDEGS software experience would be advantageous.
