Job Overview

The education assistant role is a critical position that supports the educational program and provides essential services to students, teachers, and staff.

This position involves performing tasks in accordance with established guidelines, accepted practices, and school policies under supervision and direction.

The education assistant may be responsible for coordinating activities with other education support staff within the work area or educational program.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in planning student routines and provide routine support as needed
  • Facilitate communication between teachers, parents, and students
  • Communicate with teachers on matters related to student welfare and responsibilities
  • Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students, including toileting, meals, and lifting
  • Support students' comprehension of basic tasks and information through effective communication
  • Address immediate behavioral presentations in line with school policy and procedure
  • Provide basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to 4 students in a classroom setting
  • Contribute to the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision
