Job Summary

Award-winning aged care provider Montefiore seeks an experienced and professional Occupational Therapist or Recreational Therapist to join our organisation in Sydney as a Leisure and Lifestyle Therapist. This role is based at our Hunters Hill Campus.

The Role

Reporting to the Leisure & Lifestyle Manager, this exciting and unique role supports our residents to engage in meaningful occupations through the development and coordination of therapeutic activity and engagement programs. Using a holistic approach, our therapists aim to empower and engage residents while living in a residential aged care setting to have purposeful engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Integrate Occupational Therapy and Recreational Therapy models of practice to assist residents with cognitive and mental health needs.
  2. Assess residents' cognitive abilities using Allen's Cognitive Levels and prescribe non-pharmacological interventions when necessary.
  3. Contribute to the behaviour support pathway for residents with special behaviour needs as part of a strong interdisciplinary team.
  4. Create and maintain 'better practice' leisure and lifestyle programs tailored to our residents' needs and preferences.
  5. Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and maintain accreditation status.
  6. Provide supervision to assistant support level staff and maintain a clinical caseload of minimum 70%.
Requirements
  1. Eligibility for registration with AHPRA and compliance with professional standards and code of ethics of Occupational Therapy Australia or eligibility for full membership of the Diversional & Recreation Therapy Australia.
  2. Previous experience in an aged care or mental health care environment, specifically working with residents who are living with dementia.
  3. Previous experience in the supervision of support level staff.
  4. Ability to complete activity analysis and knowledge of the meaning and diverse use of occupation.
  5. Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs for group and individual therapy.
  6. High level of organisational and time management skills.
  7. Intermediate level of computer competency across a range of programs including Microsoft Word & Excel.
