Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate individual to join our team as a Peer Support Specialist. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals who are experiencing mental illness.

Your Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Building strong relationships with clients through initial contact and ongoing support
  • Learning about each client's interests and their relationships with family and friends
  • Utilizing your lived experience skills to support clients on their recovery journey
  • Facilitating small peer-led support groups
  • Liaising with the team and stakeholders to provide appropriate supports for clients
  • SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF INDIVIDUAL RECOVERY AND SAFETY PLANS WITH CLIENTS AND RECOVERY COORDINATORS WHEN REQUIRED
  • Ensuring documentation is completed and updated in line with protocols
  • Participating in special projects as agreed with the Program Manager and the team

Requirements for Success

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A significant background in Peer Work and/or Mental Health sectors
  • Personal lived experience of mental illness or psychological distress and professional experience working from this expertise
  • Experience working collaboratively with lived experience, clinical and non-clinical teams
  • Minimum Certificate IV in mental health Peer Work or willingness to obtain
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, strong administrative skills and proficient use of technology (database, mobile devices)
  • Demonstrated professional approach to the role including maintaining professional boundaries
  • A Full driver licence with no restrictions
