About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Expert to join our team at Myer. As a key member of our Womenswear team, you will play a pivotal role in executing the Myer Exclusive Brands product strategy, specifically for our Basque Brand in Womenswear.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop commercial women's wear with a focus on creating original and stylish products.
  • Conduct trend research and analysis to inform design decisions and stay ahead of the competition.
  • Collaborate with the buying team to deliver product from concept phase to production, with a focus on constant product elevation.
  • Develop and maintain a distinct design aesthetic for the brand, including mood boards, colour stories, and print research.
  • Design and develop new styles to inject into the product range, including sourcing new fabrics and trims.
  • Prepare technical specifications of print artwork designs for production, including briefing on placement, size, colouration, and printing methodology.
  • Work with buyers to elevate product via sourcing opportunities and push the brand's handwriting forward.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary education in design or equivalent industry experience related to the design role.
  • 6+ years' experience in a design or product development role or retail equivalent.
  • Experience designing for the smart market segment in womenswear is a requirement.
  • Experience working for a medium-sized retailer is a benefit.
  • Advanced understanding of the market, customer segmentation, trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Proven ability to interpret international trends for the Australian market and communicate these effectively.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and garment finishing, and strong knowledge of fabric finishes, treatments, washes, weights, and fabric properties.
  • High proficiency using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Applications.
  • Retail, financial, and business acumen.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, working closely with the buying team, QA, and sourcing team.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
