Grange Resources Tasmania is seeking an experienced Underground Operations Superintendent to oversee our mining initiatives at the Savage River site.

In this pivotal role, you will deliver both technical and operational guidance for the advancement of our underground mining activities and associated infrastructure. This position presents a rare chance to play a key role in the development of Australia's inaugural underground iron ore block cave mine, utilizing sublevel caving and block cave methodologies to achieve an output of 6 to 7 million tonnes of ore, complemented by sophisticated crushing and conveying systems.

The north-west coast of Tasmania is renowned for its appealing regional lifestyle and is conveniently located within an hour's flight from major cities, with frequent flights available from various regional airports.

We prefer candidates who are willing to relocate to Tasmania, although we are open to FIFO arrangements for qualified individuals.

Key Responsibilities

As the Underground Operations Superintendent, your daily tasks will include:

  • Leading the execution of NPUG projects, encompassing project planning, scheduling, construction of permanent infrastructure, and equipment procurement.
  • Overseeing tendering and contract management for underground mining and construction initiatives.
  • Providing high-level engineering expertise for underground civil infrastructure, mine dewatering, and material handling systems.
  • Serving as a liaison among the Underground Project Director, Design Team, and External Contractors.
  • Continuously identifying and implementing enhancements to infrastructure design and timelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with Grange Resources' policies, particularly regarding cultural, safety, and environmental standards.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Relevant qualifications in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Mining Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading underground project implementations.
  • Familiarity with caving operations (Sublevel Caving or Block Cave) is advantageous.
  • Experience in project scheduling and management is beneficial.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and reporting capabilities.
  • A valid full manual driver's license.
  • Proficiency in Mine Planning Packages (Surpac and Deswik), Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project and Navisworks.
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and foster trust.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements for underground mining and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical consultants and adhere to the Grange Project Management Process.
