About TGS

Founded in 1875, TGS is an independent non-denominational dayand boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of nearly 1,200from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughoutQueensland, Northern New South Wales and the NorthernTerritory.

About the Position

As the Head of Department - Mathematics, you will be an integralpart of the academic leadership team, working closely with theSchool Executive to ensure the effective delivery of variousacademic programs. Your primary responsibility will be to providestrategic leadership and support to the teachers within thedepartment and the wider School community. You will be an advocatefor boys' education in an all-boys' school and ensure the highestquality learning experiences that equip students for the challengesof the 21st century.

Selection Criteria

You will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitmentto:

- Educational Leadership: Demonstratedability to strategically analyse data to identify areas forimprovement in teaching, curriculum, and student performancewith a proven track record of staying updated with research andbest practices in pedagogy, and the ability to effectivelysupport staff in implementing innovative teaching and learningstrategies. Experience in fostering a culture ofexcellence and continuous improvement in curriculum design,delivery, and assessment to achieve high-quality outcomesforall students.
- Subject Expertise and CurriculumKnowledge: Proven specialist knowledge in the subjectdiscipline, encompassing a comprehensive understanding of itsconcepts, theories, and practical applications. Ability toconvey complex ideas in an accessible manner and to inspirestudents' curiosity and engagement.
- People Management and Leadership: Strongleadership skills with the ability to motivate and enthuse bothstaff and students in their learning journey and a demonstratedability to manage, lead, and coach staff, fostering acollaborative and supportive work environment. Experience inconducting performance reviews and developing professionaldevelopment plans to enhance staff performance and supporttheir growth. Proven ability to work with parents; in responseto concerns and in building relationships.
- Student Engagement and Motivation: Trackrecord of motivating and enthusing students, particularly boys,in their learning journey. Ability to create a dynamic andinclusive classroom environment that fosters activeparticipation, critical thinking, and a passion forlearning.
- Use of Technology in Education:Proficiency in leveraging technology as an integral part of theteaching process to enhance student learning outcomes.Demonstrated ability to integrate digital tools and resourceseffectively to engage students and promote digitalliteracy
- Curriculum Development and Adaptation:Experience in collaboratively developing and evaluatingcurriculum materials, adapting to educational trends, andintegrating innovative teaching methods. Ability to use datadiagnostically, and to inform the creation of learningexperiences that are relevant, challenging, and aligned withthe school's educational philosophy and pedagogical approach ofExplicit Instruction.
- Contributions to School Community:Demonstrated willingness and enthusiasm to actively participatein the school's co-curricular activities, House system, andpastoral care initiatives. Proven ability to contributepositively to the broader school community and itsprograms.
- Professional Development and Growth:Proactive commitment to ongoing professional development and awillingness to engage in continuous learning. Demonstratedparticipation in workshops, courses, or other activities thatcontribute to refining teaching practices and staying updatedwith educational advancements.
- Alignment with School Ethos: Deepalignment with the concept of an education designed for boys,including the ability to modify curriculum content and deliveryto cater to the specific needs and interests of young men. Apassion for fostering character, responsibility, and integrityin students.
