The University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School) is the school of choice to nurture global citizens in health and wellbeing. We are currently ranked #1 in Australia and #20 globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. As a leader in nursing research and education, Sydney Nursing School produces graduates who possess critical thinking skills, knowledge and values to provide exceptional, culturally safe and person-centred care for individuals and communities locally and globally. Our experienced staff, many of whom work in frontline healthcare services, make a real difference to the healthcare landscape in Australia and internationally.

Sydney Nursing School offers a supportive and collegial environment with many opportunities for professional development. We are committed to providing a workplace that is inclusive and diverse, and we encourage applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals, including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and persons with disabilities. Applicants who are willing to embrace our vision and are interested in driving forward our strategy for continuously improving our research impact and student experience, and building a respectful, collaborative, culturally safe and person-centred workplace culture, are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking a suitably qualified full-time academic at Lecturer level (Level B), with demonstrated experience in the higher education sector of teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate nursing students in mental health, and experience of being engaged with mental health research of relevance to nursing or healthcare. You will have a PhD or be near completion (in the last six months of candidature), in nursing, public health, or an academic field relevant to the discipline. You will also have a postgraduate qualification and experience in mental health nursing. Current AHPRA registration (Registered Nurse) or potential to register with AHPRA (Registered Nurse) is a requirement for this position. - develop your capabilities in supervision and/or mentorship of students undertaking research
- facilitate high-quality learning experiences for nursing students at pre-registration, honours, and post-registration levels, using innovative approaches that cultivate learners' personal and professional growth to embody culturally safe and person centred practices
- design, coordinate, deliver and evaluate quality educational units of study and inclusive learning experiences in the area of mental health nursing, informed by the school's Integrated Indigenous and Person-centred Curriculum Framework, that meet accredited curriculum requirements
- participate in academic administration, school meetings, and initiatives aligned with the faculty and University's strategic priorities
- contribute to a collegial and inclusive environment that values diversity, collaboration, and excellence in research and teaching

About you

- current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse or potential to register with AHPRA (as a Registered Nurse)
- postgraduate qualification in mental health nursing or related area of health care
- PhD in a field relevant to nursing (or within 6 months of completion)
- extensive experience in mental health nursing
- demonstrated experience in teaching in the higher education sector, as evidenced by participation in, and development of effective and contemporary pedagogical practices that engage and inspire active learning and critical thinking applied to nursing practice
- demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum design and development in an established academic program
- commitment to delivering curricula that integrates pedagogical approaches that align with Indigenous cultural values, challenge colonial norms, and encourage learners and educators to be reflexive about their own biases
- proficiency in planning, organisation, and the use of digital tools and learning technologies, with a commitment to providing high-quality service and support to students and colleagues.
- developing a national research profile
- demonstrated evidence of quality publications and conference presentation, and application for research grants
- strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including students, colleagues, clinical and other industry partners
- a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions
- experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.
