Medical Director - Critical Care and Retrieval (522628) Department of Health Community, Mental Health & Wellbeing CMHW - Ambulance Tasmania Applications must be submitted by Sunday 09 November, 2025 11:55 PM Sunday 9 November, 2025 11:55 PM AEST Award/Classification: Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022, Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1-11 Employment type: Permanent, part-time Region: North, North West, South, Statewide Location: Lower Level, 12 Brisbane St Critical Care and Retrieval (CCR) provides a state-wide Pre Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHRM) clinical service, as defined by the Tasmanian Role Delineation Framework (TRDF) The Team: Critical Care and Retrieval (CCR) provides a state-wide Pre Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHRM) clinical service, as defined by the Tasmanian Role Delineation Framework (TRDF). Our critical care (medical team) responses provide pre-hospital and in-facility treatment and interfacility transport for seriously sick and injured people. We also provide medical coordination and on-scene clinical support for mass casualty incidents and disasters, and a Critical Care Management and Advice Service (CCMAS), for paramedics, doctors and nurses, and clinical coordination of high-risk interfacility transfers conducted by CCR and non-CCR crews. CCR is a mature PHRM service that has PHRM Training Program Accreditation from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, for delivery of both the Associateship in PHRM and as a Category A Special Skills Placement. The Hobart base provides CCMAS, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), wilderness rescue and road responses with on-base doctors employed by Ambulance Tasmania (AT). The Launceston base provides fixed-wing air ambulance and road responses using doctors employed by Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and deployed to cases at the request of AT. The Role: The Medical Director CCR will: - Actively participate in the units clinical roster, covering all aspects of the medical services provided by CCR - Provide clinical and operational leadership in the provision of specialist PHRM services in Tasmania. - Take a lead role in identifying, developing and implementing clinical reforms for the aeromedical service consistent with Ambulance Tasmania’s clinical governance framework. - Ensure processes exist for appropriate safety and quality across the clinical unit and participate in organisation-wide safety and quality initiatives. - Provide leadership, advice, and guidance to reporting staff, enabling them to meet their objectives and to effectively manage their responsibilities. - Model proactive, respectful leadership to support a positive workplace culture. Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation+ access to salary packaging Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award - Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available - Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year. - Motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata - Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35% - Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974per annum, pro rata - Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate. - Professional development and accelerated pathways. - A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support. - Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family. - Other allowances as applicable. More information about our Employee Benefits can be found here Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as - Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality. - Eligible for, and required to maintain, specialty credentialing by the Tasmanian Department of Health in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia or Intensive Care. - A reasonable level of physical fitness and ability to swim such that the applicant can function safely in the pre-hospital and aeromedical environments and maintain helicopter underwater egress training (HUET) currency. - A Current Driver’s Licence Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable: - Management qualifications or substantial managerial experience at senior manager or executive level. - Extensive operational experience as a practicing clinician. - Significant experience in ambulance operations. - Qualification in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine and/or equivalent Note: - Please refer to the Application Guide for more information of pre-employment check.
