Position Information

Lithgow High School is a Department of Education High Potential Gifted Education Partner high school, located on the eastern boundary of the Lithgow Network and on the Western slopes of the Blue Mountains, the gateway to the Central West. The student population of approximately 750 is reflective of an evolving and diverse community. We have a strong representation of First Nations students, approximately 26% of the school, and a small but growing Multicultural and EAL/D component.

Our school is nestled in a heritage listed area with important links of historical significance. We have a strong culture of sporting, academic, and community links, and our students participate in a wide range of learning experiences in the pursuit of personal excellence.

The Inclusive Education Unit is comprised of 12 classes, themed and strongly supported by the DP Inclusion and Support, with a Flexible Learning Centre scheduled for construction this year. We also have our award‑winning Wellbeing Centre and a unique Wellbeing Hub meeting the needs of all our students.

Lithgow High School is currently undergoing executive restructuring, curriculum redesign, and cohort redevelopment around HPGE enrichment streaming, piloting the fast‑tracked FutureSkills HSC, and future‑proof upskilling of student skillsets in Project Management and the General Capabilities.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated ability to lead colleagues, within and across faculties, utilise formative and summative assessment to plan, implement and review new curriculum, within a framework of backward mapping skill development leading to improved learning outcomes.

- Proven expertise in visible and proactive school leadership, working in successful collaboration with the executive to develop and support whole school policies, priorities and initiatives in the School Excellence Plan.

- Demonstrated ability to develop a culture of high expectations, mentor beginning teachers, and lead future focused thinking across the faculty.

- Demonstrated ability and willingness to lead the continual development of a HPGE Enrichment Stream from years 7‑10, and to passionately lead numeracy school wide with a diverse range of cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE. Applicants on the eligibility list will be offered the remaining FTE but are not obliged to accept. Further information can be found on the merit selection webpage.

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (conditions apply). The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part‑time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements.

A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
