This is a Research Associate - Pan-Asian Grid Modelling role with Aurora Energy Research based in Sydney, NSW, AU
Role information: Aurora Energy Research is seeking a Research Associate to join the Sydney/Melbourne team to expand Aurora’s electricity grid modelling capability across the Asia-Pacific region. The successful candidate will lead on consulting engagements, quantitatively analyse energy markets and transmission systems, and convey insights to enhance clients’ decision making. You will participate in all aspects of client engagement, including identifying issues, forming hypotheses, conducting analysis, and synthesising conclusions into recommendations. The position requires technical strength, leadership and performance in team-oriented environments, and offers opportunities to influence major decisions in the energy sector under guidance from experienced directors. The role is suited to candidates with at least 2 years of experience and a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline, such as Physics).
- Conduct research and modelling of high-voltage transmission systems across the APAC region, to enable better analysis of the energy transition
- Engage with clients across consulting engagements, performing power-flow analysis, developing timely and rigorous quantitative reports to enhance clients’ decision making
- Work closely with the modelling team, quantifying electrical engineering challenges and deriving insights from model results
- Contribute to product development by identifying new opportunities and expanding capabilities
- Communicate findings to clients
What we are looking for
Required attributes:
- At least 2-4 years of experience, ideally in a technical role within the power sector
- First-class or high second-class degree from a top university in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline, such as Physics)
- Demonstrated success in taking responsibility for project and process management in team-oriented environments
- Proven ability to collect, analyse and interpret complex quantitative data and information
- Ability to communicate clearly and co-operate effectively with both technically and non-technically minded people
- Self-starting, entrepreneurial mindset, and desire to grow the business
Desirable attributes:
- Previous experience of network/grid modelling, for example, with a transmission company, renewables developer, etc.
- Competence in advanced data analytics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, Advanced Excel, GAMS)
- Leadership, project management or mentoring experience demonstrated by previous roles of professional responsibility or extracurricular activities
- Experience with power-flow modelling and interpreting single-line-diagrams (SLDs)
- Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Korean, Japanese, or other APAC languages
