Woollahra Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Apprentice Carpenter to join our Property & Projects team for a 4-year fixed term contract commencing by 29 February 2026
In this entry-level role, you will join a supportive and close knit-team of trades professionals and learn about all areas of Carpentry.
Build fundamental skills to work as a carpenter and joiner in the building and construction industry. Learn project management skills and work on a range of indoor and outdoor projects including roofing, walls and floors. The position will require you to undertake repetitive manual tasks relating to construction maintenance activities at our various Council sites throughout the Woollahra Local Government Area.
In addition to on-the-job training, you will be required to complete a Certificate III in Carpentry (Trade Licensed).The theoretical component of this Apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of online and face-to‑face learning on a part‑time basis at Randwick TAFE. Students must be willing and able to complete their certificate by the end of 2027.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will be a self‑motivated individual that is passionate about developing a career in Carpentry. You will be a team‑player that is willing to learn and get your hands dirty in this hands‑on role.
To be eligible for this position you must have completed a School Certificate or Higher School Certificate, and not have previously completed any tertiary qualifications in Carpentry.

- Eligible to enrol in apprenticeship course to obtain certificate 3 in Carpentry.
- Strong willingness to learn and the ability to successfully complete a Certificate 3 in Carpentry over the course of up to 4 years.
- Effective communication and numeracy skills.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Commitment to complete induction and training programmes for safe operation of all workshop machinery.
- Commitment to apply safe working procedures.
- Commitment to WHS and EEO responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to complete allocated manual handling tasks as outlined in section Seven (7) of the Position Description.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- White Card.
- Driver’s licence.
