Lead Audiologist - Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke's Hospital) has an upcoming vacancy for the audiology lead of our hearing implant service in the Emmeline Centre. We need an able and experienced audiologist or clinical scientist to develop this service to maintain the Emmeline Centre as a flagship implant service. You will be organised and efficient and have a track record of service developments and promoting service oriented-research. You will have extensive clinical experience with good knowledge of the underpinning evidence. You will be experienced in promoting good practice within your service and beyond.

In this role, you will be responsible for the clinical outcomes of the Emmeline audiology team and for demonstrating quality and driving service efficiencies.

In addition to leading the implant service audiology team, this post requires you to act as deputy for the Head of Service and hence includes significant leadership responsibility. It is expected that you will already have gained some experience in leading a team and be able to demonstrate the necessary skills and attributes. You will be an able communicator both within your team and with other disciplines and professional groups.

You will have at least a BSc or MSc in Audiology or equivalent and will already have gained experience in a clinical setting. RCCP/HPC registration is expected. HSST would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

1. Lead all aspects of the Emmeline audiology team.

2. Provide a comprehensive audiological service in the Emmeline adult and paediatric implant teams covering cochlear implants, middle ear implants and bone conduction implants.

3. Responsible for all operational planning and clinical outcomes within the Emmeline Audiology team.

4. Policy decision making and strategic leadership in the Emmeline audiology team.

5. Responsible for quality across the Emmeline audiology team and meeting the requirements for IQIPS accreditation programme.

6. Lead all aspects of leadership and line management of the Emmeline audiology staff.

7. Work with and deputise for the Head of Service. Service-oriented research and development.

8. Promote the Implant service to related professions and across the East of England region.

Person specification

Qualifications

- M.Sc. in Audiology or equivalent higher level training

- State registration

- Higher level clinical training (STP/HTS/STP or equivalent)

- Registered Clinical Scientist

- HSST

Experience

- Extensive experience in clinical audiology with specialism in hearing implants and strong theoretical knowledge

- Ability to work autonomously across routine and complex implant assessments and programming

- Experience in clinical leadership and line management

- Research experience

- Experience in budget management

Knowledge

- Extensive knowledge of ear anatomy and physiology, hearing implants and processing strategies, related technologies, and guidelines

- Understanding of research and development and keeping the team updated on current developments

- Involvement in research, development and audit; ability to supervise junior staff on research projects

- Understanding of budgetary constraints and staff management procedures

Skills

- Plan and prioritise the workload of self and team

- Supervise and take responsibility for work of other staff when under direction

- Make policy decisions for future service provision and implement them

- Financial awareness related to departmental budget

- Able to act as Head of Service when necessary

- Strong communication with patients, colleagues, other professionals, manufacturers, and stakeholders

- Database and spreadsheet creation, data extraction, and report writing

- Accurate data entry and management of patient records

- Proficient in keyboard skills and data analysis

- Ability to handle delicate audiological equipment and assist with patient mobility
