Council of the City of Sydney, Australia Feedzai Full time

Expert Software Engineer - Data Orchestration

Feedzai is the world’s first RiskOps platform for financial risk management, and the market leader in safeguarding global commerce with today’s most advanced cloud-based risk management platform, powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence. Feedzai is securing the transition to a cashless world while enabling digital trust in every transaction and payment type. The world’s largest banks, processors, and retailers trust Feedzai to protect trillions of dollars and manage risk while improving the customer experience for everyday users, without compromising privacy. Feedzai is a Series D company and has raised $282M to date. With a valuation of +$1.5B, the company's technology protects 900 million people in 190 countries.

The Engineering (Tech) Team is responsible for all Feedzai product development. Together with Product Management and Data Science, we build the next generation of tools to catch fraud in real-time with a machine learning first approach. Formed by engineers and managed by engineers, at Feedzai, you will find one of the most talented teams out there, from junior to senior engineers.

We are fast-paced and provide a safe, open, and collaborative environment that encourages us to lean in, try new things and discover our potential with continuous learning for everyone.

While building the best value for our customers, you will work with a wide range of technical challenges. Such as building distributed systems that need to operate 24/7 and ultra-low latencies, solving UI/UX problems to help fraud analysts to fight fraud more efficiently. In addition, designing extensive databases from relational, NoSQL and graphs, validate and develop new data science techniques and algorithms.

You:

The Expert Software Engineer role requires an engineer at heart who is able to lead and guide engineering teams to deliver Feedzai products. The role requires deep technical knowledge that enables you to challenge teams and bring out the best in them. You will be responsible for building top-notch engineering teams and driving their execution.

As an Expert Software Engineer, you will be part of the team responsible for developing the Feedzai Orchestration. Technically, this product deals with challenges around large volume data, diverse data sources (internal and external), data orchestration and transformation, and integration of an ecosystem of external and internal data providers into a cohesive whole. The product is used directly by end users, ranging from Data Engineers, Business Analysts and Data scientists.

While the Feedzai Orchestration Solution has several applications wherever there is data wrangling and orchestration needs, the north star use case is Account Opening. This product allows financial institutions to onboard new clients safely, as they subscribe for the very first banking product and throughout their lifecycle as a customer of the bank.

As the entrance to the bank, Account Opening protects the institution and legit customers against critical risks such as identity theft or synthetic identities. Moreover, it is the first layer of protection against the proliferation of mule accounts, used to move funds originated in fraud with the goal of laundering it.

Our philosophy across Engineering includes the following key ideas, which you will have a key role promoting in your team:

- Teams operate with a “you build it, you run it” DevOps mindset, taking end-to-end ownership of development, deployment, and operations. You/'ll drive a culture focused on automation, observability, and operational excellence, enabling continuous delivery with confidence.
- Architecture evolves towards a decoupled, microservice-based architecture, positioning it to scale efficiently in a multi-tenant, cloud-native environment. This effort is central to Feedzai’s long-term vision and product evolution

Your mission is to deliver the technical leadership necessary to create and maintain an highly efficient, high quality and scalable Data Orchestration SaaS product (and the engineering organization behind it).

Your Day to Day:

- Technical Management — This is the core responsibility. Provide technical leadership and vision for the Data Orchestration product line, combining hands-on development with experimentation and prototyping. Ensure long-term architectural integrity while driving tactical improvements with PMs, EMs, and developers. Lead cross-cutting engineering initiatives, uphold Feedzai’s product quality standards, and act as mentor to other technical roles.
- Cross-Functional Support — Partner with teams during planning (risks, designs, estimates) and align with Customer Success, Security, Sales, and Marketing to shape technical direction. Collaborate with peers and leadership to improve engineering skills and consistency across products, promoting sound methodologies and cohesive product delivery.
- Hiring & Growth — Support the hiring process by shaping technical evaluation standards, and mentor engineers to become strong technical interviewers.

Preferred/Valued Qualifications and Skills:

- Experience in creating and operating Data Engineering projects or products, and associated Data Engineering technologies (eg Scala, Snowflake, Redshift, Airflow, and similar)
- Experience working on projects that move quickly and have ever-changing processes and structure
- Be solution-oriented, and when issues arise, be able to roll up your sleeves and tackle them with a ‘get it done’ attitude
- Team player with a clear focus on taking the performance of teams to the next level
- Enjoys the business side and shows their best self coming up with technical solutions to enable a product vision
- Has strong experience building/working on cloud-native SaaS systems
- Is a developer of engineers as much as an engineer, exercising mentorship and leadership-by-example to a community of engineers

The Product Team builds our product to disrupt the financial crime industry from a data-led approach. We partner with our clients using a holistic lens and have result-driven solutions to manage financial risk with a cloud-first platform and a world-class UX interface. Being part of this team, you have a voice in planning, strategizing, and challenging the status quo. Your thoughts and ideas are valued. Our fast-paced and open environment encourages us to lean in, try new things, and discover our potential. We define and act on what could be in tomorrow's world, not on what is today. Join Us
