The Opportunity

The Tyree Institute of Health Engineering (Tyree IHealthE) has an opportunity for a Technical Engineer - Clinical Modelling & Motion Analysis to support the delivery of the Institute’s core capabilities. The core responsibilities of this role include operating motion capture systems, segmenting medical imaging data, and creating accurate 3D anatomical models for analysis and 3D printing. You’ll be working alongside multidisciplinary teams across clinical, research, and technical domains—helping ensure high-quality data outputs and supporting ethical and regulatory compliance. By joining Tyree IHealthE, you’ll become part of a team dedicated to addressing unmet needs in health innovation translation.

- Salary, Level 7: $113,926 to $123,301 per annum + 17% superannuation (pro-rated if part time)
- Full timeor Part time (3 days per week – 0.6 FTE)
- Fixed term contract – 2 years
- Location: Kensington/Randwick – Sydney, Australia
- On-site role

Skills and Experience

- Tertiary qualifications in biomedical engineering, medical imaging, clinical sciences, or a related field.
- Experience with motion capture systems (e.g., Vicon, OptiTrack) and biomechanical modelling tools (e.g., OpenSim, Visual3D).
- Proficiency in medical image segmentation and 3D modelling software (e.g., Simpleware, 3D Slicer, Mimics, Materialise).
- Understanding of 3D printing technologies and anatomical modelling requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills to support cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Knowledge of ethical and regulatory standards in clinical and research environments.
- Willing to become a hospital contingent worker and work with patients (motion capture)
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
