Overview
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment, where your expertise in payroll will directly contribute to empowering and supporting South Australians impacted by work injury. You will be part of a team that genuinely cares about people, sustainability, and inclusivity, and you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of end-to-end payroll activities. With a strong focus on professional excellence, accountability, and customer outcomes, this position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact while enjoying flexible working opportunities and ongoing training. If you are passionate about delivering accurate payroll services, enjoy process improvement, and want to be part of an organisation that listens to understand and owns its actions, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
- Join a purpose-led team dedicated to supporting South Australians through their recovery journey after workplace injuries, where your contributions will have real community impact.
- Enjoy working in a collaborative environment that values inclusivity, innovation, and continuous learning, with access to flexible working arrangements and professional development.
- Be empowered to drive process improvements and system enhancements within payroll operations, supported by knowledgeable colleagues who share your commitment to excellence.
What you’ll do
As a Payroll Advisor, you will play an integral role in ensuring the seamless delivery of payroll services within a supportive team environment. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing complex end-to-end payroll processes for a medium to large workforce using CHRIS21 software. You will be responsible for maintaining data accuracy across all transactions while adhering strictly to legislative requirements. In addition to processing regular pay runs and statutory payments such as superannuation and taxes, you will also handle employee lifecycle events from onboarding through termination. Your analytical skills will be put to use developing robust reporting mechanisms that support both internal decision-making and external compliance obligations. By mentoring colleagues on best practices in payroll administration and by driving continuous improvement initiatives you will help foster a culture of care, accountability, and professional excellence throughout the organisation.
- Process and administer all aspects of fortnightly and monthly end-to-end payroll functions with meticulous attention to compliance with awards, agreements, legislation, contracts, policies, and procedures.
- Manage superannuation payments, payroll tax obligations, and other statutory payments while ensuring all reporting requirements are met accurately and on time.
- Maintain the integrity of payroll systems by monitoring internal controls and ensuring data accuracy across all transactions.
- Administer employee records including onboarding new starters, processing terminations, pay increases, back pays, and maintaining up-to-date information at all times.
- Develop and implement regular standard reporting queries using the Payroll system (CHRIS21) to identify errors or inconsistencies and eliminate them proactively.
- Conduct peer reviews and compliance checks of payroll data prior to authorisation workflows to ensure accuracy and adherence to policy.
- Prepare statutory reports for internal leadership teams as well as external agencies; complete end-of-financial-year processes including annual returns for relevant authorities.
- Create and maintain comprehensive payroll process guides, procedures, and training tools for both current staff and new users.
- Mentor People Advisors by providing expert advice on pay-related queries while interpreting relevant legislation, industrial instruments, policies, procedures, and best practices without offering financial or superannuation advice.
- Act as a key administrator for the payroll system: manage user access permissions; coordinate upgrades; troubleshoot issues; liaise with technical support; participate in projects integrating payroll with HR/Finance systems.
What you bring
To excel as a Payroll Advisor, you bring substantial hands-on experience managing complex payroll operations within sizeable organisations. Your background includes not only technical proficiency with CHRIS21 but also an aptitude for leveraging advanced Excel capabilities for detailed analysis. You are adept at navigating intricate legislative frameworks governing pay conditions - and can translate these into practical solutions that benefit both employees and the business. Your approach is methodical yet flexible: you thrive when balancing multiple priorities under pressure without sacrificing accuracy or compliance. Colleagues value your clear communication style - whether you're mentoring peers on best practice or collaborating cross-functionally on system enhancements. Above all else, your dedication to ethical conduct ensures every action aligns with organisational values around care for people, inclusivity, accountability, and sustainable outcomes.
