About the Role
We are seeking a meticulous and passionate Junior Pearl Grader to join our team in the salary range of $75,000 - $80,000 p.a.. The successful candidate will assess and grade South Sea pearls according to AUTORE’s high standards of lustre, surface, shape, size, and colour, ensuring every gem meets our world-class criteria. The candidate will also assist with the preparation of the pearls for auctions and for inclusion in jewellery.
The candidate will also become an integral part of the pearl sales team and assist the pearl department across domestic and international shows and travel to predominantly Japan, Hong Kong and China to support the sales process.
You will work closely with our production and quality assurance teams to maintain consistency, integrity, and traceability throughout the grading and sorting process.
Key Responsibilities
• Examine and grade pearls using AUTORE’s established grading system.
• Identify, classify, and record pearl characteristics accurately.
• Maintain detailed grading and stock documentation.
• Collaborate with quality control, design, and sales teams to ensure correct allocation and presentation of pearls.
• Assist in preparing pearls for sorting, stringing, or bespoke jewellery creation.
• Ability to pick, select and prepare pearls for inclusion in pearl jewellery
• Support continuous improvement of grading techniques and quality standards.
About You
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong eye for colour, symmetry, and surface quality.
• A steady hand and patience for fine, detailed work.
• At least 12-18 months experience in jewellery, gemmology and,
• At least 12-18 months experience in pearl grading is, training will be provided for the right candidate to increase the skill set and knowledge base.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work within a small, dedicated team.
• A passion for natural beauty, craftsmanship, and the world of pearls.
• A degree or certificate in jewellery production and design
• Able to speak multiple languages would be highly beneficial
