Data Engineer (Data Platforms) / Platform Engineer – Cloud, DevSecOps, and Automation

As a Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in transforming one of Australia’s largest data ecosystems into a scalable, secure, and cloud-native environment. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact cloud engineering initiatives, contributing to innovative solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and implement automated technical solutions within an Agile team environment.
- Strengthen and enhance CI/CD and DevSecOps practices within Microsoft Azure, supporting cloud-native services, Kubernetes workloads, and PaaS deployments.
- Continuously identify and implement opportunities to automate and optimise development, deployment, and release processes.
- Deploy, configure, and manage containerised applications on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Helm, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and JFrog Artifactory.
- Integrate enterprise systems, security services, and diverse data sources within Azure-based solutions.
- Implement observability, monitoring, governance, and compliance frameworks across CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes environments.
- Manage security and secrets using tools such as HashiCorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, and CyberArk.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across infrastructure, pipelines, and cloud workloads.
- Maintain clear documentation including runbooks, operational procedures, and system configurations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable cloud platform solutions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies in DevSecOps, automation, and cloud, driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Experience

- Strong background in CI/CD methodologies, tools, and automation in cloud environments (preferably Microsoft Azure).
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining DevSecOps pipelines using Terraform, Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub Actions, and JFrog Artifactory.
- Proven expertise deploying and running containerised workloads on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes, containerisation, monitoring, compliance, and automated governance.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python or Bash.
- Experience with secrets management tools (HashiCorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, CyberArk).
- Familiarity with Azure services including ADLS Gen2, Azure NetApp Files, Azure Premium Files, and Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
- Strong Linux/Unix background.
- Experience working within Agile teams and tools (Jira, Confluence).
- A commitment to security, compliance, and risk management best practices.
- Knowledge of Azure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and cloud security principles.
- 2–5 years of platform engineering experience in a complex enterprise environment.

Desirable Experience

- Knowledge of Azure data technologies (Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Power BI).
- Experience designing cloud-native or serverless data solutions.
- Understanding of DataOps or ModelOps methodologies.
- Experience with test automation frameworks or Apache Airflow.
- Exposure to SAS Viya 4 implementation and integration with Azure and enterprise systems.
- Background in Financial Services environments.
- A proactive learner with a passion for DevSecOps innovation and continuous improvement.
