Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is located in the heart of Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands and the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. With stunning views out to the impossibly blue waters of the Whitsundays, it is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island.

The island is one of the closest Whitsunday islands to the mainland (Airlie Beach) with spectacular 30-minute ferry ride to work each day.

Job Description

As part of the Aquarist team, you are responsible for animal husbandry, aquarium life support, and maintenance, ensuring a healthy environment for the marine life. As one of the Island’s Living Reef Aquarist you will also be providing educational and memorable experiences for guests by leading interactive tours and speaking to audiences.

This is a live off island role.

Key responsibilities

- Upkeep and maintenance of Aquarium life support systems
- Monitoring of water quality and health of marine life
- Food preparation and daily feeds
- Deliver interactive presentations and tours for the general public
- Handling live animals
- Scuba Diving, daily upkeep of cleaning and maintenance of the Living Reef lagoons and surrounding grounds
- Assist with the Lovers Cove reef restoration program

Desired Skills and Experience

- Science Degree: Marine Biology, Aquaculture or equivalent education, training, and experience
- SCUBA Diver – Rescue or willingness to obtain
- Confident public speaker with excellent customer service skills
- Blue Card (working with children’s check) or willingness to obtain
- Dive Master/Instructor
- Boat Handling experience (Coxswains Unrestricted or restricted)
- ADAS Occupation SCUBA Part 1 or Aquarium Diver
