Position Title

Senior Registrar/Fellow – Anaesthetics

Position Profile

The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) provides hospital and community‑based public health services. The Department of Anaesthesia, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Fremantle Hospital is recruiting Senior Registrars and Fellows for the Mid‑2026 Medical Intake.

Appointments are for 6‑12 months with the possibility of extension and will be made from a recruitment pool valid until 28/02/2026.

Responsibilities

- Provide anaesthetic management and peri‑operative care for patients undergoing surgical or other procedures at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Fremantle Hospital.

- Perform in‑hours elective and emergency work, with approximately 25% after‑hours commitment, covering both general and obstetric anaesthesia.

- Supervise Junior Registrars under the direction of a Consultant Anaesthetist.

- Participate in teaching and education activities for junior team members.

General Fellowship Scope (when applicable)

- Plastic and reconstructive surgery

- Renal transplants

- Spine surgery

- Urology, including robotic surgery

- Vascular surgery

- Procedure training in other listed specialties (see full list in application materials)

Qualifications & Selection Criteria

- EC1 – Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.

- EC2 – Provisional fellow or above with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent overseas authority at commencement of employment.

- EC3 – Demonstrated experience, ability, and ongoing commitment to teaching and education.

- EC4 – Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience sufficient to undertake peri‑operative and safe adult, obstetric and paediatric anaesthetic care.

- EC7 – Demonstrated active participation in continuing medical education activities.
