About the Role:
Acorn Lawyers is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join the head office of our law firm based in Wollongong CBD.
In this position, the candidate will be responsible for managing all management accounting, financial reporting, and general accounting functions within the organisation and its related entities. This is a key role, reporting directly to senior management and requires a proactive approach to providing corporate accounting and financial planning support and strategic accounting input.
Key Responsibilities:
Your key responsibilities will include without limitation, the following:
• Generating weekly management reports including analysis of the company's weekly overall performance and financial standing for review by senior management.
• Preparing monthly balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statements and changes in financial position.
• Conduct internal audits and enforcing accounting policies in consultation with management to mitigate ongoing business risk.
• Provide financial reporting and insights to management, interpreting the implications of accounting outcomes on various facets of the company's operations.
• Conduct thorough review of the company's accounting records and transactions to ensure accurate representation of the company's operational performance.
• Enhance company's business systems and provide accounting analysis to ensure continuous improvement of business decision making.
• Manage and where relevant, assist the external accountants in the timely and accurate lodgment of BAS, annual CTR, payroll, FBT, Workcover, licensing, ASIC and other required regulatory compliance.
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, trust accounting, internal auditing, accounting and finance data management, invoicing and debt collection.
• Liaise with external auditors, accountants, tax agents, and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Manage accounts payable & accounts receivable.
• Conduct detailed legal trust accounting and auditing tasks
Skills and Experience Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting & Finance (BCom (majoring in Accounting)) acceptable.
• Minimum 2 - 3 years of full time equivalent, onsite experience in accounting and financial management role, preferably working in a medium size, local law firm.
• Proficient in MS and Excel Workbooks.
• Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, Reckon & Xero)
• High level efficiency and experience in using legal software (Clio & LEAP)
• Experience in trust accounting and in-depth knowledge of trust accounting rules and legislation.
• Ability to work under tight time frames and fast paced environment.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
