The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Technical Officer (Pig Reproduction) to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the role is to support and provide technical support to a series of research projects investigating the housing, reproduction, nutrition, and welfare of pigs.
The role contributes to delivering the agency’s priorities, including a 3% increase of SA Primary Industry GDP by growing productivity, improving efficiencies, driving AgTech, enhancing R&D technology, and innovation.
The role involves managing the Pig Research Building, laboratory equipment, maintenance, and repairs, and will involve the daily care and management of experimental animals, the design and preparation of diets, pig handling, and the implementation of treatments and experimental plans.

Special Conditions
- Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
- Australian residency or current work permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- Opportunity up to 6 months.
- Full-time opportunity, 37.5 hours per week.
Requirements
- Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive required.
- Out of hours work and inter/intrastate travel may be required.
- Australian residency or current work permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- You acknowledge your work, health, and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- Other requirements include ProHand animal handling and appropriate vaccinations (facilitated within the job if omitted on application).
Qualifications
Essential
- Recognized qualification or equivalent experience in an appropriate technical discipline.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualification in biology or animal sciences.
Remuneration
TGO1 - $1074.96 min - $1342.47 max per week, plus superannuation
