About your opportunity

As the Operations Process Engineer, you will lead technical investigations, risk assessments, process design, asset improvements and performance monitoring. You will support asset upgrades as subject‑matter expert, mentor junior staff and ensure regulatory compliance. The role requires a tertiary engineering qualification, significant experience and expertise in complex water treatment or process plant operations, emphasizing problem‑solving, risk management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead technical investigations and troubleshoot process issues

- Observe and study system functioning and performance results

- Anticipate operational problems by studying operating targets, modes of operation, unit limitations and monitoring unit performance

- Conduct and facilitate risk assessments

- Develop operational plans and strategies to improve plant performance

- Plan and manage a diverse range of technical projects, consultants and contractors, coordinating multidisciplinary teams

- Conduct laboratory analysis, commissioning and test plans

- Train staff and develop associated documentation

- Collect, process, analyse operational and engineering data and information, and develop technical reports

- Coach junior and intermediate engineers

- Provide specialist advice for process technical studies and improvements involving multi‑disciplinary teams

- Develop operational solutions by defining, studying, designing, estimating, screening alternative solutions and conducting financial analysis

- Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders as required

- Develop communication plans and provide reports and presentations to stakeholders

- Conduct travel and site work as directed

- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations

- Develop and maintain job knowledge through educational opportunities, professional publications and organisations

- Support Incident and Emergency Management team as a member of the on‑call team

- Undertake other duties assigned by the Manager

- Identify all applicable guidelines and ensure compliance with corporate, industry and regulatory standards set by Seqwater and relevant agencies

- Adhere to behavioural expectations stated in “The way we work” (Seqwater’s Code of Conduct) and related policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

- Tertiary qualification in Engineering (mandatory) with significant experience

- Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role

- Current active RPEQ registration in a relevant discipline (desirable)

- Chartered Professional Engineer (desirable)

- C‑class Driver’s Licence

- Ability to work independently with broad direction

- Practical knowledge of design, commissioning and operation of water treatment processes and technical reviews

- Detailed knowledge of and experience in the theory and practice of water treatment processes and management systems

- Knowledge of regulatory, industry and operational requirements pertaining to drinking water treatment (e.g., Australian Drinking Water Guidelines)

- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence and persuade

Salary and Contract Details: Competitive annual salary (dependent on experience) plus 12.75% Superannuation. Fixed‑term contract until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension.
