Job location

Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria’s 14 prisons with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. This position based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services provided in maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.

About the Role:

The Psychologist (Grade 2) will be working on a unit with female offenders experiencing mental illness as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The psychologist may be involved in scholarly writing and research and may complete court ordered psychological assessments as directed.

Duties:

- Provides a full range of psychological services and advice on the management and treatment of patients.
- Provides specialist psychological, psychometric and psychodiagnostic assessments and reports where necessary.
- Provides individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
- Contributes to patient risk assessment and risk management in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provides discipline-specific contributions to clinical practice and to program development.

About You:

- Previous working experience in a mental health facility, or a forensic mental health service would be an advantage.
- Knowledge in clinical forensic psychology including forensic assessments (i.e., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders and/or forensic patients.
- Knowledge in clinical neuropsychology including the assessment of functional deficits.
- Knowledge and experience working with female offenders, including those with personality disorders.
- A good understanding of the current psychological approaches in working with female and male clients experiencing mental health issues in the forensic mental health setting.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, the mental health system, and the criminal justice system.

What you need:

- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
