The NBMLHD Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, non-judgmental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

An exciting opportunity for an occupational therapist, social worker or counsellor to join a rewarding team providing essential care to people receiving drug and alcohol treatment. As a Clinician in the Assertive Community Management team, you’ll deliver direct, frontline care to patients navigating drug and alcohol dependency alongside co-occurring physical, mental health, and social issues.

This role champions harm minimisation and a recovery-oriented model of care, working collaboratively within a medically led multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive assessments, develop and review care management plans, and support patients in achieving meaningful goals.

What you will bring to the role

- Tertiary qualifications in a) Social Work with current membership (or eligibility) with the Australian Association Social Workers (AASW); or b) Occupational Therapy with AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist; or Counselling with ACA L3-4 registration (Australian Counselling Association) or PACFA Clinical Registrant status (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia)
- Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, planning and evaluation of psychosocial interventions with adult patients including exercising independent professional judgement on routine matters.
- Demonstrated experience with using advanced reasoning skills when undertaking a patient’s assessment of cognitive capacity and their complex issues, report writing, developing and reviewing care plans, delivering case management activities and psychosocial interventions.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to professional and ethical boundaries in consultation with a medically led multi-disciplinary treatment team.
- Knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional needs of patients with drug and alcohol issues including clinical response and management of trauma, grief and loss, domestic and family violence and child protection.
- Knowledge of and commitment to working and partnering with Aboriginal patients, families and communities as well as improving the health outcomes for socially disadvantaged groups of patients within the local community.
- Current Driver's License and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
