Job location
The Lara precinct comprises four correctional centres: Barwon Prison (maximum security), Marngoneet Correctional Centre (medium security), Karreenga (medium security), and the new Western Plains Correctional Centre (maximum security), which began receiving people in custody in July 2025. Forensicare staff a multidisciplinary team that provides outpatient secondary mental health services to each of the locations within the precinct.
About the Role:
Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical psychological expertise to clients across the Lara Precinct as a member of the multidisciplinary team. In addition to this, the senior psychologist is responsible for contributing to the ongoing development and planning of Forensicare’s psychological services at the Lara Precinct; provides high level consultation and advice on complex clinical matters; completes psychological reports for court as required; and contributes to special projects, committees and working parties within the organisation including the development of policies and procedures.
Duties:
- Provide an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient/prisoner issues to other clinicians.
- Provide specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
- Contribute to patient/prisoner risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Participate in the training and supervision of Grade 2 psychologists (including registrars), psychology placement students, and staff of other disciplines where appropriate.
- Contribute to or initiate specialist clinical projects in relation to identified patient/prisoner populations or needs.
- Maintain clinical records in line with organisational policies and procedures and ethical standards.
About You:
- Demonstrated experience in providing a high level of services in forensic mental health and related settings.
- Experience in clinical forensic mental health practice including forensic assessments (e.g., court ordered assessments, assessment of risk for violence) and intervention with offenders.
- Knowledge and experience working with offenders, including those with personality disorders.
- A good understanding of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally disordered male patients in the forensic mental health setting.
What you need:
- Registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Endorsement or eligibility for endorsement by AHPRA in the area of clinical and/or forensic psychology.
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APAC accredited course or equivalent.
- Listed as a registered supervisor (or eligible for being so listed) with the Psychology Board of Australia, AHPRA.
