About the role

At The Lost Dogs’ Home Cranbourne, you will support shelter activities with the potential to handle cases not commonly seen in private practice and contribute to our mission of giving every animal the best chance at a happy and healthy life. You may be sole charge for a half day on a Saturday once a month; on all other days you will have the support of another one or two Veterinarians.

Location: Cranbourne shelter (no general veterinary services to the public at this site).

On a day-to-day basis you will be

- Providing diagnostics, treatment and care to lost and abandoned animals at the Cranbourne shelter
- Medical and surgical examinations in a shelter setting
- Conducting incoming animal checks if indicated
- Undertaking clinical examinations of animals in our care
- Undertaking routine surgical procedures

Responsibilities

- Undertake sole charge responsibilities for a half day on Saturdays once a month
- Collaborate with a team of veterinarians to provide high-quality shelter veterinary care

About you

You are an experienced and dedicated veterinarian, passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of shelter animals in a dynamic environment. A minimum of 3+ years of professional experience is preferred, with a deep understanding of veterinary practices, commitment to animal welfare, and the ability to adapt to shelter care challenges.

- 3+ years of experience as a veterinarian (preferred)
- Well-developed clinical and soft tissue surgical skills
- Emotional maturity and a deep commitment to animal welfare ethics
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration and teamwork
- Ability to follow protocols and contribute effectively within a team
- Adaptability to a rotating roster ensuring consistent care for shelter animals
