Wollongong City Council, Australia Niche Environment and Heritage Full time

When you join Niche, you’ll be joining a connected community of technical specialists, strategists and sustainability consultants. We are Ecologists, Botanists, Aboriginal & Historic Heritage Consultants, Archaeologists, Environmental Engineers, Architects and Spatial Analysts. We have different backgrounds, skills, life experiences and perspectives, but we have some important things in common. We’re here to do work that matters. Work that will have a lasting impact on our clients, our communities, our environment and our futures.

We know that to achieve that as a community, each one of us must find our own place to belong. Each member of our community must be empowered, supported and trusted to perform their unique role. Finding your niche does not mean limiting yourself or constraining your ambitions. It’s more about focus, deepening your expertise so you can increase your impact. We want you to look back on what you achieved at Niche and say, “This is where I did the best work of my life.” And we will do everything we can to empower you to achieve that.

BELONG TO AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

The foundations of our support

We are unashamedly optimistic about our ability to create meaningful change.

Niche was founded on a desire to do things better. And on the realisation that standard approaches to environmental management did not always fit our clients’ complex challenges.

Delivering the solutions our clients and communities need requires us to empower and trust our people with the flexibility, autonomy and resources they need, and to provide leadership and support so they can do their best work.

This support has been built around 4 pillars that have been defined by our people.

We’ve been championing flexible and remote work since we were established in 2009. Now we’re extending it further to support you to do your best work, and take care of all the other aspects of your life.

“I appreciate that Niche gives me the choice to work flexibly from anywhere in the country. Our working environment is collaborative and trusting and motivates each one of us to deliver excellence.”
Deretta Brown, Business Analyst

- Flexible and remote working options to structure work around your life
- Options to take additional life leave to support your health, wellbeing, development and personal fulfilment
- Annual salary review and industry benchmarking
- Competitive time in lieu policy and allowances for your time out in the field

And you’ll have the flexibility to take your career where you want to go.

“Niche have been supportive in allowing me the flexibility I needed to complete my doctorate with the Australian National University. I was employed by Niche as an experienced ecology consultant with six months remaining of my degree. They allowed me flexible working hours around research meetings, and the capacity to work less hours for the final weeks of my degree.”
Dr Cara Parsons, Experienced Consultant – Ecology

- Mentoring program to connect you to a network of industry leaders
- Flexible career paths and learning programs across technical and people leadership
- Discipline-specific training and accreditation
- Professional development and membership support
- Additional leave and allowance to support your professional development

The cornerstone of our organisation is a vibrant community where all our people can belong and build meaningful connections. That community extends out to the communities we serve.

“It’s been great to have some paid time off to take a break from work to look after the new addition, as well as hang out with the family, relax, adjust and take it all in. I’m looking forward to trying the primary carer role later in the year”
Simon Tweed, Manager – Natural Capital
